Drug Court is a voluntary multi-phased diversionary drug treatment program.  Once a defendant is referred by his/her attorney to the program, he/she is evaluated to determine whether the program can offer sufficient treatment services to him/her.  If services exist, the defendant must enter a plea of guilty to the pending charges.  Instead of being sentenced, he/she will be placed into treatment according to the results of the evaluation.

Each participant's program is tailored specifically to meet the individual treatment needs of the defendant.  Upon successful completion of treatment and graduation from the program, the charges will be dismissed.  If the defendant does not successfully complete the program, he/she will be sentenced to a period of incarceration in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Drug Court program lasts a minimum of one year.  Representing the Will County Public Defender's Office in the Drug Court program are Shenonda Tisdale and Jaya Varghese.  Drug Court is presided over by the Honorable Judge Sarah Jones.
